Ballet Audition for “Cinderella

HOT SPRINGS – – – Saturday, February 12th, 2022, the Hot Springs Children’s Dance Theatre Company will be holding auditions for Cinderella  at the Techniques Studio, 216 Garrison Road, Hot Springs, AR. All dancers from the ages of 5+ are encouraged to audition for the opportunity to perform in this much-loved story book ballet.

Under the artistic direction of Edmond Cooper, those chosen will have a wonderful opportunity to learn the nuances of a ballet performer taken as seriously as any professional dance organization.  The auditions are open for dancers from the entire community that are interested in a professional experience.

Edmond Cooper, a native of Hot Springs, is a former professional touring performer and acclaimed choreographer. His talent, energy, and vision breathe life in the dance company every day, on all levels. He has returned home, to Hot Springs, to be close to family and to dedicate himself fully in this Dance Theatre endeavor and the Arkansas audience is discovering how entertaining these performances are to experience.

Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the audition time to have time to register. At the audition, students will do a ballet barre, and learn a small excerpt of material and will be asked to dance. A parent or guardian must be present for students under 18 years of age to sign appropriate waiver forms.

The audition will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022;  9-10am for dancers 5-9 years of age; 10:30 –12:00 noon for 10–13 years of age, and 12:00–1:30 pm ages 14 and older.  An audition fee of $10.00 is required. Dress code for girls is black leotard, pink tights, hair in a bun and ballet shoes, in addition to pointe shoes for advanced and intermediate females.  Males are asked to wear tights, shorts or sports pants and t-shirt during auditions.

Each performer selected to participate will be required to sign an agreement and pay a participation fee of $50 to Hot Springs Children’s Dance Theatre Company. This fee is due by the second week of rehearsals and will cover rehearsal costs and a weekly Saturday 10am morning warm up class for the cast prior to Saturday rehearsals. An additional costume fee will also be required in April of $90.  Dance rehearsals will primarily be every Saturday (and some weeknights for more advance dancers) of February through May performances.

Part of the obligation of the performers to the Dance Company is to be dedicated to attending rehearsals.  Dancers will be learning techniques, requirements of a stage performer, classical theatre training, and choreography specific for the production of Cinderella.  The technical rehearsal week will be May 8 – 12, 2022.   Students participating will partake in a arts and educational outreach school production performed before local school districts, on May 19 at 10am, and five open public performances Friday May 13th and 20th and Saturday May 14th at 7pm and a 1pm matinee on Saturday the 14th and 21st, 2022.
